#146 - How To Build A “Last-Mile” Trucking Business & Sell It for Millions?

**Early Life: **

Jason Burns, born in New Orleans, is a proud graduate of St. Augustine High School and recipient of the distinguished “Purple Knight” Award given to the best all-around student. He later attended Vanderbilt University and played football for the university. He earned an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies in 2006.

After graduation, Jason was one of only six candidates selected for Central Parking System’s (now SP+) elite “Executive in Training” (E.I.T.) program. As an EIT, he gained hands-on management experience in operations and finance as well as business development and sales.

After college, Jason returned to his hometown to assume leadership roles in his family’s business enterprises. These included Burns Management Group (BMG), Global Parking Systems (GPS), and QCS Logistics (formerly Quick Courier Services, Inc.). He led the company’s resurgence by developing new service offerings, implementing a technology platform, and expanding operations into new markets. These initiatives resulted in record growth, and QCS was selected to the Inc. 5000 list for four consecutive years as one of America’s fastest-growing companies.

Jason is an active community leader. He is a former board member of the Urban League of Louisiana, founding member, and former Treasurer for the Urban League of Greater New Orleans Young Professionals chapter. He is now a passionate business leader in the Greater New Orleans community and Same Day transportation industry.

**Interaction with TN’H: **

Jason Burns’s story is about hard work, dedication, and success. He credits his father for teaching him everything he knows about trucking while growing up in the business - it’s clear that they have been lifelong partners. Jason shared some great insights into what it takes to scale your company when your family-owned like theirs.

Jason’s ideology of last-mile delivery is very different from others. His wise words and insights can help other entrepreneurs in the long run with their business, especially those trying to break into this competitive industry.

During one and half hours of the interview, Jason talked about CLDA and its functions. He emphasized the importance of CLDA to the audience but also shared insights on how to join. Those interested in CLDA can listen to this podcast to understand how it works and what opportunities it provides.

**Final Thought: **

In his final thought, Jason Burns asked a question that showed the importance of the transportation industry—name one thing in your room that didn’t come here through one of the four modes of transportation. This made him explain that the transportation industry keeps the wheels of commerce moving.

Jason says that every trucking job is essential, and the country should better recognize its value to society. The economics of the industry should show how well we serve our communities.
